What is the Throat chakra? Well lets dive in and discuss what it is, how to tell if it is blocked, and how to keep it balanced.
So, first what is the Throat chakra? It is the 5th chakra and also what is known as the upper chakras, including the throat, 3rd eye, and crown. This chakra is the entry to higher spiritual sphere. The Sanskrit name for the throat chakra is Vishuddha, which means purity. Throat chakra is the main energy center for speech and communication and can be a view of our ethics and morals. This chakra is also connected to the ears and allows us to hear our inner voice, our truth.
When there’s an imbalance with the throat chakra it can cause several issues, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. You can experience an overactive or underactive throat chakra. Overactive is where you find yourself judging others, judging yourself, and a gossip. You may sense yourself talking over people or being loud when communicating. You may also find yourself being very analytical to distract yourself from your true emotions and keeping yourself from truly understanding your feelings.
When your throat chakra is underactive, you can have a hard time expressing your feelings and being afraid to speak your truth. Signs that you have an imbalance with your throat chakra can consist of:
- Sore throat
- Ear infections
- Neck pains
- Jaw pains
To keep your throat chakra balanced and healed, try daily affirmations, such as, “I speak my truth”, “I speak with love”, and “My voice matters”. These are just a few but you can apply your own affirmation. Journaling is a great way to keep this chakra balanced. Writing is a good way to start working on communication, writing your thoughts and releasing them helps you to get your truth out. Doing yoga helps with a blocked throat chakra.
Remember that when you decide to work on healing this chakra, it’s normal to feel some emotional effects, but push through because you are finally allowing your truth to break free.

When meditating “Ham” is the sound used. Before meditation make sure to start with a free mind. You can use sage to remove any negativity you may feel present before beginning. Always remember when meditating you will get distracted but when you do, don’t dwell on those thoughts, acknowledge them, accept it, move on, and focus back on your breath and don’t forget to say your affirmations, which can be done silently in your head.
The throat chakra is very powerful, so make sure when you have it balanced to speak your truth but with love!
