The Essence of a Black Woman

I write this post to inspire my black women who feel ignored or overlooked. We are beautiful, strong, and intelligent and the backbone to a society that overlooks us.

We are more than baby mommas. We are mothers that sacrifice our all to better our children even when the fathers have abandoned us.

We are not bitter or scorned. A black single mother is frowned upon but should be praised for not giving up but pushing through. As single mothers, we show our children what hard work is without complaining. We teach our children about God to instill morals in them to lead them on the right path. We hold the weight of the world on our shoulders with statistics stacked against us but we carry ourselves with class and dignity.

We are trendsetters, from our hair to our nails, clothes, and style, we are imitated daily but called ghetto.

From the way, the sun glows on our melanin skin, calls attention to our beauty. Stand tall and proud in your black skin my sista and rock your hair how you feel. We will not conform to society’s beauty standards when we are the true definition of beauty.

Never be afraid to speak your truth of fear of being portrayed as the angry black woman. You have a right to your voice being heard and demand the respect you deserve.

I am proud to be a black woman and will hold myself to the highest standards and demand my respect.

I leave you with love, peace, and positivity, Namaste!
